I can sleep again! The breathing programme I did with Pauline helped me realise how much breathing was affecting my quality of life and my sleep. As a perpetual mouth breather and a chronic snorer, I would wake up in the morning exhausted. I was struggling to fall asleep at night as I was anxious about how tired I was and worrying about work. After my first session I was taping my mouth at night and wearing nasal strips to open my nose for breathing, which at first, I wasn’t sure about! After a few nights I was converted as I woke in the morning feeling like I had energy again. Before I discovered the Buteyko Breathing Method, I was really struggling with my asthma and felt dependent on my inhaler (panicked if I did not know it was nearby!) I was getting out of breath just walking to the shops, waking in the night wheezing, felt tired and anxious all the time. Since I started practising Buteyko, I have seen so much improvement in my asthma symptoms, I find I do not need my inhaler anywhere as much as I used to, I am sleeping better, I don’t feel as out of breath and have more energy. I feel a lot calmer and my anxiety has really reduced. The breathing programme was easy to follow and simple to understand. The best part was that I started to feel in control of my own health again. I am so grateful that I found breathwork and how it’s helped me with the challenges of perimenopause. As I approached menopause, I struggled with no longer having periods and seeing myself as an attractive female. Whilst other people told me it didn’t matter, it did matter a lot to me, as my periods stopping signified an end to a stage in my life. I never had children and the menopause brought back so many emotions about how I felt about that. With Breathwork I have been able to acknowledge the pain I feel and release it, be kind to myself, and see life in a different view than the narrative I was told growing up, that all women have babies. This was my first time trying Conscious Connected Breathwork and I wasn’t sure what to expect. A friend recommended it to me as I have been struggling with emotions from the past. Pauline put me at ease from the beginning of our session, with her calm and kind approach, and explained clearly what the session would look like, so I was able to relax.
